QuantumExplainer.com is built to be usable by as many people as possible, including readers using a screen reader, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, or their own stylesheet.
Conformance status
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard referenced by the European Accessibility Act, the UK Equality Act, Section 508 in the United States and the Accessible Canada Act. Our current assessment is that the site is substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA: it meets the standard except for the items listed under “Known limitations” below.
What we have done
- Contrast. Every colour pair used for text was measured rather than eyeballed. Body text, links and secondary text all exceed the 4.5:1 ratio Level AA requires, in both the light and the dark theme.
- Light and dark themes. The site follows your operating system’s setting by default, and you can override it from the switch in the header or the footer. The choice is remembered on your device.
- Keyboard. Everything that can be clicked can be reached and operated from the keyboard, with a visible focus outline. A “skip to content” link is the first thing you reach on every page.
- Structure. One first-level heading per page, headings in order, named landmarks for the header, navigation, main content, sidebar and footer, and breadcrumbs on every page below the homepage.
- Images. Every content image carries alternative text. Decorative thumbnails are hidden from assistive technology so they are not read out twice.
- Reflow and zoom. The layout works down to 320 pixels wide and at 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling. Wide tables and code samples scroll inside their own container instead of pushing the page sideways.
- Motion. If your system asks for reduced motion, transitions and movement are switched off.
- Text spacing. The layout holds up when you increase line height, letter spacing or word spacing with your own stylesheet.
- Forms. Every field has a real label, required fields are marked, and errors are described in words rather than by colour alone.
- High contrast. The site is usable in Windows High Contrast / forced-colors mode.
Known limitations
- Advertising. Adverts are supplied by a third-party network and their internal markup is outside our control. We reserve space for them so they do not shift the page as they load, but we cannot guarantee the accessibility of an individual advert’s content.
- Older articles. Some articles published before this work contain tables and lists that are correct but plain. We are revising them as we revisit each article.
- Consent banner. The cookie consent interface is provided by a third-party consent platform. We have chosen its accessible configuration, but we do not control its markup.
How this was assessed
Self-assessment, carried out in September 2026, combining automated checks of the generated HTML and CSS with manual keyboard and structure testing across the homepage, an article page, a topic hub, the search results page and the 404 page. This is not a third-party audit.

Technical information
The accessibility of this site relies on HTML, CSS and JavaScript. All articles, navigation, search and the topic hubs work with JavaScript disabled.
Two features do need JavaScript. The light/dark switch is one: with scripting off it is hidden, and the site quietly follows your operating system’s setting instead. The newsletter sign-up is the other — it passes through an automated anti-spam step that needs a script to complete. If you cannot use it, write to us through the contact page and we will add you to the list by hand.
